How to choose a water tank and where to put it
Choosing a tank and deciding on a suitable location is very much a personal choice, but we have put together a short guide to make sure you get the best use from your new water tank.
Helpful Hints
- Look for down pipes or pipes with the greatest catchment area
- Every square metre of roof area will give I litre of water per mm of rainfall e.g.: Roof Area 6m length X 10m width 1 down pipe = 60 m2 roof area + 30mm rain = 1800 litres of water
- Round tanks are the most economical. A 2500 litre round Polywater Tank will give approx 35c/litre; a 5000 litre round tank, 27c/litre and a 2800 Slimline Polywater Tank, 67c/litre.
- Check the height of the eaves, at least 200mm clearance to the top of the filter basket on the tank
- Choose a level area
- Watch for windows & access doors to sub floor areas
- Maintain Council regulation distance from boundaries
- Do not rest tank on house footings
- Consider connecting tank into toilet or washing machine. A licensed plumber can undertake this when tank is installed. Get tank as close to W.C. and /or laundry if this is an option.
